A clean reinstall eliminates conflicts from old or corrupted driver packages. Generic “Class Drivers” installed by Windows Update often lack scanning, fax, and wireless features. Follow these platform-specific steps.
Windows 11 — Full Clean Reinstall
Remove the Printer from Settings
Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → select your printer → Remove.
Remove from Control Panel
Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers, right-click the printer (if still listed) → Remove device.
Remove Driver Packages via Print Management
Run printui.exe /s /t2 in Run dialog. Under Drivers, remove all packages for your printer brand. This removes the underlying INF driver, not just the device.
Reboot & Reinstall
Restart Windows. Then install the manufacturer’s full-feature driver package for your exact model and OS. Avoid the generic class driver.
Printeroids Driver Updater auto-detects your printer model and installs the correct package from manufacturer sources.
macOS — Full Clean Reinstall
Remove from System Settings
System Settings → Printers & Scanners → select printer → click the − button to remove.
Delete Stale Queue Files
In Finder, press Cmd+Shift+G, navigate to /Library/Printers and delete the folder for your printer brand. Also clear /private/var/spool/cups if needed.
Reinstall Full-Feature Package
Download the vendor’s full driver package (prefer the branded driver over relying on AirPrint for scanning/fax features). Install and re-add the printer.
AirPrint works for basic printing but disables scanning, fax, and advanced settings. Always install the manufacturer’s full package for full functionality.
Skip the Manual Steps
Printeroids Driver Updater finds, downloads, and installs the correct driver in one click — on Windows 11 and Windows 10.
